EC Fun

My class recently had an exciting time exploring different types of leaves! We went on a leaf hunt around the school compound and discovered so many unique shapes, sizes, and textures. We gathered some of the most interesting ones and created a huge leaf collage together. It was amazing to see the children's excitement and their eagerness to point out the different colours and shapes.

We also had a little experiment to teach them about the importance of leaves. They observed how our school's gardener carefully pruned the plants and understood that this helps the plant grow healthier. It was a great hands-on lesson on the wonders of nature!
It's wonderful to witness their excitement and curiosity during these nature explorations. The simple act of collecting leaves and creating art can spark so much joy and wonder! It's also an excellent way to Sneak in some learning about shapes, textures, and colours. Does anyone have any other fun activities centred around leaves that have proven to be crowd-pleasers?

Another exciting activity that comes to mind is a leaf Rubbing Art session. We placed different types of leaves under white paper and let the children rub pencils over them, revealing beautiful textures and patterns. We also showed them how to sprinkle colour pigments on the paper before rubbing it with a pencil to create funky art with leafy shapes. The kids loved the surprise factor!

For older toddlers and kids, you can take it up a notch by exploring more intricate leaf prints using paint and ink. It's mesmerising to see the detailed veins and patterns displayed so vibrantly! These beautiful artworks can then be used to adorn classroom walls or sent home as a nature-themed souvenir.

That sure sounds like fun! I'm glad there are lots of simple, yet captivating, activities that we can introduce to young kids with affordable materials. Are there any other go-to nature art activities that you'd recommend which require minimal prep work and materials?

Some nature art activities that are simple and engaging include painting with natural dyes created from berries, leaves, and flowers. Foraging for materials provides an opportunity to explore the surroundings and appreciate seasonal changes.

Another idea is making natural prints using found objects - interestingly shaped leaves, feathers, or rocks. You can press these items onto paper or fabric to create unique patterns and textures. Rock painting is fun too! And it's relaxing for all ages - you can create your own rock garden afterward too!

If you're somewhere sunny, sun printing is a cool process where you can place objects on special sun print paper and set them out in the sun to create an image. You could also try making nature collages or wreaths - the options are endless when you're outdoors! These activities encourage sensory exploration and creativity, which is so important for kids.

So many great ideas to keep the little ones entertained while encouraging an appreciation for nature! I love the sun printing idea - creating art with the help of the sun is such a cool concept and the results look so effective. And I can see older kids and adults getting very into rock painting too - it's amazing how something so simple can be so relaxing.
