As a single mother of two, quality time with my kids is paramount. I love engaging them in sports or outdoor activities; it's such a fantastic way to wear them out! But on days when we're home, cooking together is a wonderful bonding experience. Preparation can be a sensory experience for the little ones and a good opportunity to learn about ingredients and measurements. It also teaches them a life skill and fosters independence which I'm sure you'll agree, is music to any parent's ears!
I used to take my kids to baking classes when they were younger, and now at seven and nine, we can whip up cakes and muffins together and even try some simple composting! It's amazing how food brings people together, and it's a great distraction from screen time. Besides that, I let them invite friends over for added bonding - it's heartwarming to see the kids running around, playing hide-and-seek with glee.
Creating special moments often involves being present in the moment yourself and creating memories through experiences rather than things. But shhh..I also have a secret stash of fun goodies for those emergency sugar rush moments!
