I'd use the extra time to pursue skills unrelated to my career in environmental science, probably something hands-on and creative like pottery or wood burning - a total mind shift from my day job.

That sounds relaxing! I've always wanted to try something like that too but never really had the time. It's great to have an activity that helps you unwind and de-stress, especially one that uses your hands and creates something tangible.
 
I agree! It's so nice having a hobby where you can just focus on creating without any time constraints - it's such a great feeling of relaxation and you end up with something physical at the end too, which is so satisfying!
