For me, the decision to adopt stemmed from a personal connection established through voluntary work at an orphanage. I witnessed first-hand the impact of a loving, stable home on some of the most vulnerable children, and it became my mission to offer this permanently to a child in need.
The journey into adoption was immersive, requiring extensive paperwork, preparations, and waiting periods that tested my patience. But the most profound lesson came after the adoption process, when reality sunk in. I realised that the bond forged between parent and child is not always instant, and may take thoughtful nurturing.
My adopted child, now settled in their new home, still has difficulties expressing emotions and managing everyday stress. It's a gradual process, filled with challenges, but each day presents an opportunity to grow together and strengthen our unique mother-child bond. Through this experience, I've realised that adoption is not a rescue mission but a journey of shared growth and learning, requiring patience, understanding and an abundance of love.
