Having a strong sense of self is vital, and helping our kids develop their sense of identity and opinions early on will help them make better decisions down the line. It's a super helpful tactic, especially when introduced early on, to help them develop that sense of self and opinion! I agree, it's a great way to avoid sensory overload too.
Do share more insights you have that relate to positive parenting styles or strategies - I'm sure many readers would benefit from your experiences!
As parents, we can start by being good role models by assertively yet respectfully sharing our own opinions and being true to ourselves. We should also consider providing options and encouraging two-way conversations with our kids - not just giving orders but discussing and explaining the whys and hows behind our requests. It empowers them to understand the reasoning behind the decisions and keeps them grounded, knowing that their inputs matter.
We should remember that each child is unique; what works for one might not work for the other. Parenting, therefore, requires adaptability and lots of reflection!
