Every parent's goal is to raise their child right and proper, but it's not always a walk in the park. While it's crucial to be there for our children's milestones and achievements, I've learnt that tough love is sometimes needed too. I had to send my son overseas to study in an international military school when he started going off track at the local secondary school. It was difficult adjusting initially, but it proved to be a good decision in the end because he emerged more disciplined, focused and responsible.

I think what works best is letting our children know that we are in their corner, offering unwavering support, but also expect certain standards and behaviours. This journey of parenting has definitely taught me the importance of balance - balancing acts of service with tough love to bring up a well-rounded human being.

Knowing that our children are being set up for success, especially during those formative years, is a comfort as parents. Still, you remind us all that sometimes tough decisions need to be made to ensure they find their path. It's a testament to your love and dedication!

As a parent, I have learned that every phase has different challenges, and what works best for me is staying involved but not invasive. Being interested in her life, offering options but letting her make choices, and giving space for independent exploration seems to work well so far.

For instance, instead of deciding everything for her, I present her with age-appropriate alternatives and allow her to select one. Keeping an open line of communication also lets her know she can come to me with anything without fear of judgment. It has helped me notice significant milestones early on and enabled us to work through them together as a team.

I agree with you on the importance of balance. Setting healthy boundaries is easier said than done, but when struck well, it brings such a sense of harmony to the parent-child relationship!

That's a great approach! Creating a safe space for your child to share their thoughts and experiences freely is invaluable. By offering options, you empower your child to develop decision-making skills and personal agency.

It's wonderful that you're attuned to the ever-changing dynamics of each phase, which can make parenting feel like navigating uncharted waters at times! The strategy you described strikes a beautiful balance between providing guidance and allowing space for growth.

It's heartening to hear how you've managed to maintain a healthy relationship with open communication while ensuring your child still has the freedom to explore their interests and form their own identity. It's a testament to the trust and security they feel in sharing these experiences with you.

Well done, and keep up the fantastic work! It's a pleasure to hear your insightful thoughts on this journey.
