Managing Toddler Behaviors

Humour as a distraction is a brilliant strategy! It's wonderful how you're able to shift your little one's focus and bring some joy amidst the tantrums. Their curiosity and enthusiasm are contagious, and finding ways to embrace those moments with laughter can make parenting so much more enjoyable.

It's great to hear what works for others - any other fun tactics people have found successful in managing toddler behaviours?

Laughter truly is the best medicine, and it's an effective way to navigate those tricky toddler moments!

I've also found success in engaging their helping hands. Toddlers yearn for independence, so giving them small tasks or involving them in simple activities helps channel their energy constructively. Assigning them the role of 'official taste tester' when cooking or letting them 'show' their toys how to brush teeth can make mundane tasks more fun and give them a sense of purpose.

Another trick up my sleeve is the good old game of Simon Says. It's amazing how this classic can capture their attention, especially when modified with made-up moves like "Simon says do a funny dance!" It's a fun way to work on listening skills and physical activity too.

And if all else fails, bringing out the 'magic' trick bag never ceases to amaze. A sudden appearance of glow-in-the-dark stickers or a mysterious new sensory bin seems to work wonders when curiosity peaks!

It's a delightful phase full of learning and discovery, and finding ways to lean into their playful spirit makes parenting that much more enjoyable.

Some great tips here!

I especially love the idea of recruiting their helping hands and giving them an official role - so cute and a great way to incentivise them! And yes, laughter really is the best medicine; I find giggling along with my tot diffuses many a potential meltdown too!

Simon Says is a fabulous go-to. I'll have to try your twist of adding in some wacky moves - that would definitely grab their attention!

The mystery of the 'magic' trick bag is also noting I'll be stealing... anything to see those curious little faces in action!

So true that leaning into their playful spirit makes parenting so much more fun - keeps us on our toes, huh!
