Makes them more adventurous eaters too, which can make meal times fun! What are some Japanese dishes do you think would be a hit with the little ones?
Some kids might be open to trying new Japanese foods as they tend to be very tasty and colorful, which can appeal to little ones. Here are some dishes that I think could be a hit with children:
- Tempura prawns or chicken pieces. The light, crispy batter and fun shape could appeal to kids who love crunchy snacks.
- Sushi, especially California rolls or colorful Makizushi (rainbow rolls), can be fun to eat and also provide a variety of flavors and textures. Fish like salmon or crab meat, avocado, cucumber, and colorful veggies are hidden inside the rice, making it an exciting unravelling experience.
- Yakitori, grilled chicken skewers, are a tasty and healthy option, especially when using lean meats and vegetables like bell peppers.
- Teriyaki anything is a sweet and savory winner! The glaze makes any protein, from chicken to tofu, taste amazing. Plus, it's often cooked until sticky and caramelized, which can be a kid-friendly texture win.
- Ramens or Udon noodles are also a popular choice with their hearty broth and fun, slurpy nature. Kids can also have fun sucking up the noodles with a straw if they're skilled enough!
Some kid-friendly side dishes or apps to share: edamame, colorful pickled vegetables, potato croquettes, or deep-fried tofu pouches.
The key is to make it an interactive and enjoyable experience. Let them play with their food, use chopsticks (or tiny fork for the resistant ones), and engage their senses. What's your go-to family-friendly Japanese dish that you'd recommend?
