Bans and restrictions should absolutely be a last resort. It's so important to provide education and guidance - particularly for children - so they understand the reasons why certain behaviors might be problematic, dangerous or harmful. We need to foster an environment where they can ask questions and learn, otherwise we risk fueling curiosity in a detrimental direction.
The delicate balance between preservation and encouraging exploration is a tricky one! We want our spaces to remain special and respected but also don't want to stifle that creative spark. I think the key may lie in thoughtful moderation, being vigilant but also creating positive, engaging distractions.
What other strategies have you seen employed that strike a good balance?
