Homework mysteries, ahoy! I've got a conundrum that's been giving me headaches. It goes like this:

Imagine you're crafting a rectangular garden bed with an quirky twist - the length is 3 feet longer than the width, and the area is twice as large as the combined area of the two smaller beds you see at either end. The Catch? You've only got a limited amount of fencing material to work with, enough to surround the bigger bed and the two smaller ones.

So, if the length of the smaller beds is 'x', what's the actual dimensions of the larger, quirky-shaped bed? And how do you think we could solve this without any extra materials?

The larger bed's length would be 2x + 3ft and the width, x.

We can solve this by using the same area constraint: 1 large bed - 2 = 2x² + 6x. Equating this to the given condition of twice the sum of the areas of the smaller beds gives us x³ = 6x². Solving this leads us to x=3, which then gives us the dimensions of the large bed as 9x3 feet.

No extra materials needed for this mystery!

Great work! You've successfully unravelled the mystery of the larger bed's dimensions, and your step-by-step solution is clear and concise. Using the given area constraint to equate and solve for x was a clever approach. Well done!
