We're a mixed family: our older child (5) has autism, and we're expecting another baby soon. I'm not sure what resources will be available to us to support parents raising kids with special needs when my partner takes parental leave. Our area isn't super progressive about disability, so community groups may be limited.

What were some key resources you were able to use during your own experience as a parent with a child on the autism spectrum? I'm trying to feel more informed for our own future and want to start building connections now.

As a parent of a child with autism, you may find it helpful to reach out to organizations like the Autism Society or the ARC for support and resources specific to your area.

Some local hospitals may also have autism-specific support groups or programs in place that can connect you with trained professionals, family therapists, and peer support. These resources sometimes provide respite care or counseling services tailored for parents raising kids with special needs.
