I'm trying to start small but with big dreams. I recently got married and my wife and I are saving up to buy our first home, pay off some student loans, and start building a family of our own.

However, our income is quite low for now (he's in grad school and I'm freelance/online entrepreneur) so we have to be really careful with how we spend our money every month. We're aiming to raise our kids on a dime (hence the title!) by implementing various frugal strategies and budgeting hacks.

Some of the things I've been researching include cheap childcare options, second-hand clothing for kids, and ways to cut costs on food, entertainment, and household expenses as our family grows.

Does anyone have any tried-and-true tips or tricks for raising families on a tight budget?

Frugal Childcare Options

I'd love to hear from other parents who have found affordable childcare solutions. Some of my research so far includes things like:

* Drop-in parenting classes or co-ops
* In-home nannies or sitters sharing expenses with neighbors
* Community-based programs that help with childcare costs

How did you handle childcare expenses when your kids were young? Were there any specific services, resources, or networks that made a big difference for you and your family?

I've been part of a local parenting co-op where we take turns watching each other's kids. It's been a lifesaver on busy days, and it's also given me a chance to connect with other parents in my community. We have to pay a small membership fee, but overall, it's really helped us save money on childcare costs compared to traditional daycare options.

I'm curious to hear about others' experiences - what kind of affordable childcare solutions have you found?
