This thread will follow the progression from the 1st trimester through to the 3rd, documenting all the changes, developments and milestones along the way. The 1st trimester can be a confusing and overwhelming time with so many symptoms and changes occurring rapidly - this is a place to share your experiences and gain reassurance!

Let's start with some details on the 1st trimester (weeks 1-12)! During this phase, the focus is primarily on the establishment and development of the placenta. It's also a critical stage for the formation of the embryo's organs and body systems. Some key events include:

- Implantation: The embryo implants into the uterine wall, which can cause some spotting and cramping.
- Hormonal Changes: Huge hormonal fluctuations can cause nausea, fatigue and mood changes.
- Organ Development: All the organs and body systems are formed during this period - it's an incredible time of rapid growth!
- Morning Sickness: The infamous morning sickness can strike, though it can hit any time of day. This is often the hardest symptom for women in this stage, but it passes eventually!

What were/are your experiences of these symptoms? Do you have any 1st trimester stories or advice to share?

The first trimester definitely sounds like a whirlwind of emotions and physical changes!

I found the hormones absolutely exhausting - I was so tired all the time, and had some bad bouts of nausea which really took me by surprise. It felt like constant motion sickness, and the smell of certain foods would set it off big time. Luckily no actual vomiting, but the constant urge was not fun! This was definitely the hardest part for me mentally, as it came with a lot of anxiety about the pregnancy and worry that something might go wrong - so many unknowns!

Implanting cramping was also new to me and quite surprising, I must say. It was so different from normal period cramps, almost like a sharp twinge. Luckily it passed fairly quickly, but definitely left an impression!

Despite all this, the excitement of hearing the heartbeat for the first time made it all feel so real - a very special moment Can't wait to hear about everyone else's experiences and milestones :)
