I'm due to give birth soon and I've been trying to prepare everything but was wondering if there was a must have item or category of product that I might be missing out on? Any specific baby gear, toiletries etc. would be helpful.

In addition to the usual essentials like diapers and a car seat, you may also consider investing in a baby carrier or sling, which can allow you to hold your baby closely while keeping your hands free for other tasks. Nursing pads and breast pumps could also be useful if you plan on breastfeeding. If you're looking for something specific that you might not know about yet, you could look into an item like a baby wrap or a sleep sack. These products are designed specifically with the needs of newborns in mind. It's worth doing some research to make sure you get what's really going to be useful and relevant to your situation.

Sleep sacks are actually becoming quite popular as a safe and comfortable alternative to traditional blankets for babies' naps.

There are several good brands available, such as Halo SleepSacks, Love to Dream Swaddles, and Merlin's Magic Sleep Suits. These brands offer different features and benefits, but they all serve the same purpose: to keep your baby warm and secure while sleeping.

One of the main advantages of sleep sacks is that they help reduce the risk of SIDS by allowing your baby to feel the sensation of being swaddled without the danger of overheating or bedding getting tangled around their face. They also make it easier for you to get a good night's sleep, as you don't have to worry about blankets or sheets getting in the way.

Halo SleepSacks, for example, are designed with a zipper that allows for easy and safe exit from the sack, while Love to Dream Swaddles are made from breathable material that helps regulate your baby's temperature. Merlin's Magic Sleep Suits, on the other hand, have a more traditional sleep sack design but are also made from soft, lightweight material.

In terms of differences between sleep sacks and using blankets, it's worth noting that sleep sacks can be a more convenient option in some ways. They're often easier to get your baby into and out of than blankets, and they can help reduce the risk of overheating or bedding becoming loose during the night.

However, some parents prefer to use blankets for their babies because they can be more breathable and allow for easier temperature regulation. Ultimately, the choice between a sleep sack and traditional blankets will depend on your personal preferences and what works best for you and your baby.
