I'm at my wit's end with potty training. My toddler (24 mos) can go almost anywhere without an accident, but as soon as we're on a long car ride, it all goes out the window. What strategies or tips do you have for making potty training work in the car? We've tried having him sit on his 'potty seat' while we move down the road, but he's simply too uncomfortable and resistant to that. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

You might find it helpful to try to identify and then minimize potential causes of your toddler's discomfort, as this could reduce the resistance he experiences. Consider keeping him calm by using white noise or playing soothing music, possibly with some of his favorite songs included. Ensure that he is comfortable sitting in his seat and that any clothing he might be wearing won't cause discomfort while wearing it. Consider if there's something about driving itself that causes anxiety for your child, as this could also lead to reluctance to use the potty or becoming more resistant. There are devices designed specifically for car travel which you can have your toddler sit on or place his pants over when he needs to go to the potty in the car.
