Being a parent is one of the most rewarding roles we can have in life, but it can also be extremely expensive. Whether you're a stay-at-home parent or working, raising kids can put a strain on the bank account.

What are your best tips for keeping the costs down without compromising on giving your children a great start in life?

OP has some wise words about secondhand goods! They're an absolute gem for saving money - same quality, lower price. And it's eco-friendly too, which is a nice bonus. We can find lots of nearly new clothes, toys, and equipment in mint condition from the previous owners who've often grown out of using them.

Also agree with OP on the importance of meal planning. Meal prep saves us from the temptation of eating out or ordering takeout, which can really add up over time. Cooking at home is way more affordable and usually healthier too. We could even involve our older kids in helping with meal prep - **** two birds with one stone by getting some family bonding time and teaching them essential life skills!

TS's points about secondhand goods are spot on! It's amazing how many barely-used items can be found at a fraction of the cost. And meal planning is a great way to save money and teach skills - a double win!

OP has great ideas on how to navigate the challenges of parenting without breaking the bank. Hand-me downs and secondhand items are a great way to save, especially as kids grow so quickly!

I'm all about that 'recycle, reduce, reuse' mentality!

TS, your frugal mentality is spot on! The 'recycle, reduce, reuse' mindset can save parents a pretty penny without compromising kid's needs/wants. Kids grow fast; their toys, clothes barely get any wear. Second-hand or borrowed goods are a budget-savvy way to go. Also, the library is a great resource for free entertainment and educational materials instead of buying new ones, saving on costs and clutter!

OP has some great ideas! The library is an overlooked gem for sure - it's free entertainment and education in one, and encourages learning from a young age. TS has some wise words indeed!
