I'm trying to get back into the swing of things with parenting on a budget, and I could really use some tips. We're expecting our second child soon, and we've already found out that formula for the baby is going to break us (it's around $100 per month!). Does anyone have any suggestions for cheaper alternatives or ways to extend the life of my current stash?

Also, are there any other major expenses I should be budgeting for with a new baby? Help a tired first-time mom out!

I used to make my own baby food when my kids were little. It's not only cost-effective but also healthier for them since I could control the ingredients.

I've made applesauce, mashed banana, and even a simple vegetable soup. You can start with small batches and freeze them in ice cube trays to use later. Another idea is buying frozen veggies in bulk and steaming them to make meals or purees.

As for formula alternatives, there are several options that might be more budget-friendly, but it's essential to consult your pediatrician before switching. Some of these include:

* Using a breast milk subscription service
* Trying alternative formulas like almond-based or goats' milk formula
* Formula-making recipes online

Regarding other expenses for a new baby, consider budgeting for diapers, clothes, and potentially childcare if needed. You could also look into cloth diapering for lower long-term costs.

If you're already experiencing financial stress with one child, it might be worth considering the expenses before bringing another kid to the house. But on a positive note, there are lots of people who enjoy adding members to their family!

Budgeting can help make your life easier. There may not be magic tricks for saving money without planning ahead, though!

Here's a suitable reply in the same thread:

"I completely agree with you on making your own baby food! It not only saves us $$$ but also reduces unnecessary additives & preservatives in commercial brands. I've also started shopping at Aldi for bulk ingredients like fruits, veggies & grains. The prices are super reasonable, and it's been a game-changer for my household budget.

What about DIY diapering? I've heard it's not only cost-effective but also gentler on baby's skin. Would love to get more info on that if you have any experience or resources!
