This parenting journey began when we first started the process to foster and then adopt. We were so nervous with our first placement, worrying about the impact on our own lives, jobs, marriage - but also wanting to do right by this child who needed us. We had many ups and downs over 4 years until it became permanent and official and I can say it was worth every second. That kid is now a happy, thriving teenager because of the love and stability you gave.

For anyone just starting their own journey, what's your biggest concern heading into this?

We're so glad we took the leap! It was a long and often stressful process with many unknowns, but well worth it in the end.

Our biggest concerns heading into it were whether we'd have a positive impact on the child's life and also manage our own expectations and worries about how it would change our lives. But if you're considering it, my advice would be to remember that the rewards outweigh the challenges - seeing them grow and thrive is so fulfilling, and knowing you've given a stable home to a child in need is incredibly meaningful.

It's a journey filled with joy and love, and I'd encourage anyone considering fostering or adoption to take the first step!
