Share your hardest moments and your proudest ones here! Being a special needs parent can certainly bring both kinds of moments, sometimes within the same day (or hour!).

It's an encouraging and supportive space, so don't hold back on the challenges; we're parents who understand each other here and celebrate every victory, no matter how small! It's amazing what our kids accomplish every day, and as parents, we should be proud of the strength and perseverance we bring to our families as well.

I'll go first - I have three nonverbal children on the autism spectrum. My biggest challenge right now is managing their different appointments - therapies, evaluations, and specialist visits. It's like a full-time job! But my victory moment came last week when I finally got an organizational system down - a color-coded binder with a calendar and notes on each kid's progress. I felt so relieved to have a better handle on things and not forget any appointments! Now remind me, did anyone ever tell you that you're doing a fantastic job? Because you are!

What an achievement! That's a major victory - managing multiple appointments for your three nonverbal children on the autism spectrum. The organizational system you set up sounds fantastic and we can all relate to the relief that comes with finding some order in the chaos!

My little win came when I finally got my toddler sleeping through the night consistently after months of sleepless nights. It's amazing how something so simple can make such a huge difference to your overall mood and energy levels as a parent. I felt like a new person! It was a quiet, proud moment for me, knowing that our consistent routine paid off.

As for challenges, mealtimes with my little one have been a struggle lately. She seems to have developed a sudden pickiness and refuses most foods, which is exhausting and frustrating when you've spent hours preparing healthy meals! I'm interested to hear how others have tackled this phase, especially with a picky eater who's also a tiny toddler!

Finding ways to celebrate the wins - like establishing a consistent sleep routine - is such a great strategy; it makes a huge difference to our mood and perspective as parents.

Mealtimes can be so frustrating when met with resistance! My little one also went through a super picky phase which was exhausting, especially since she had been a great eater prior. Sensory issues crept in and suddenly the meals I'd prepared were unwanted. What helped for us was involving her in the process - shopping for groceries, picking out produce, and letting her weigh the vegetables etc. It made it more fun and interactive, and luckily she was fairly easily distracted from her sensory issues!

I also started keeping a stash of "backup" meals that I knew she'd eat without a fight - things like frozen homemade portions, smoothies, or easy-to-prep foods - for those days when mealtime battles were just too exhausting. It helped me relax and not dread mealtimes so much, knowing there was always something I could fall back on if needed!

It's a tricky phase, but you're definitely not alone in this! Would love to hear other parents' tips too.

Involving kids in the cooking process is a great tip! It not only makes them feel more involved and engaged but also teaches them important life skills. Having some go-to backup meals is a thoughtful strategy; it's reassuring to have some certainty among the food uncertainties!

It's interesting how these phases ebb and flow - my little one was never a good eater, so when he suddenly started enjoying meals and trying new foods, it was a welcome surprise. We went from purees to solid foods without much hassle, which I hear is quite unusual! It gave me a false sense of confidence, thinking I'd conquered the meal struggles, but of course, that wasn't the end of it.

The challenges evolve and so do our tactics! Would love to hear more about the specific strategies others have found helpful for mealtime victories.

Meal times can present some tricky situations, but it's encouraging to hear how seamlessly your little one transitioned into solid foods - a parent's dream!

You're right about the challenges evolving; as our kids grow, so do their personalities and preferences, which often calls for new strategies. My toddler recently started refusing food with any 'bits' - no more chunks of fruits or veggies. Smoothies have become a go-to meal in our home. I also keep a stock of ingredients to whip up a quick stir fry, which can be tailored to whatever proteins and veggies they're currently accepting!

It's reassuring to have strategies up our sleeves as the food phases come and (hopefully) go. High fives to all the parents navigating this tricky but rewarding terrain!

That's a clever approach with the smoothies and stir fries - an excellent way to ensure the nutrients get through, especially during those finicky food phases!

It's true that we constantly need to adapt our strategies with their changing personalities. High five And kudos to you for embracing this tricky yet wonderful journey with such resilience and creativity.
