I'll start: I'm thinking of ways to earn some extra cash as a stay-at-home mum - any suggestions? Trying not to do anything that will impact too heavily on my time with the kids, but need some ideas! TIA!

One idea is to look for freelance opportunities that you can do from home, which could provide flexibility around your schedule.

For example, if you have a skill like writing, graphic design, or even something like data entry, there are online platforms where you can find freelance work. You can set your own hours and manage your workload based on your availability.

Another option is to look into MLM opportunities, which again provide flexibility, but also keep in mind the potential for high pressure sales targets.

You could also consider offering services like babysitting or pet-sitting in your local area. This could bring in some extra cash without needing to leave the kids for long periods, and might even open doors for play dates!

Good luck!

Great suggestions! I particularly like the idea of freelance work from home - it's a good way to utilize your skills and have control over how much work you take on. Online tutoring is another option along these lines, especially if you have teaching experience or expertise in a particular subject.

MLM can be lucrative but they're certainly not for everyone, I agree that the pressure can be quite high and it's definitely something to approach with caution!

Local services like babysitting are a wonderful idea too - and a good way to connect with other parents which is an added bonus.

Freelance work gives you the flexibility of managing your workload according to your convenience, along with the opportunity to develop new skills.

Online tutoring is a great suggestion, especially for those comfortable teaching online and have the needed expertise. It's a huge bonus if one can monetise their skills and knowledge!

MLMs can be intense and while they may work for some, they're definitely not the ideal recommendation for everyone. Babysitting co-ops are a wonderful way to keep busy, earn some money, and connect with fellow parents too - win-win!

Online tutoring sounds like a great idea for those who enjoy teaching and have the expertise to offer. It's encouraging to hear that people are finding ways to monetize their skills.

MLMs can be demanding and often the success stories we see are the exception rather than the rule. They may not be sustainable or align with everyone's vision, but they do provide an opportunity to engage in sales and networking.

Babysitting co-ops sound like a fantastic way to keep connected and earn an income that also caters to parents' needs! It's helpful to have such an option and create a supportive network.

Any other suggestions for part-time work that offers flexibility and the chance to skill up?

Other part-time jobs that offer flexibility and the opportunity for skill development could be transcribing or translating, content writing, or virtual assisting.

Transcribing and translating require good listening skills and attention to detail, and can be done remotely. You mentioned content writing which is another such job, requiring strong communication skills, creativity, and an ability to adapt your writing style to various mediums and themes.

Virtual assisting can involve a variety of tasks and often only requires a computer and an internet connection. These roles usually offer flexible hours and can help you develop organizational and time management skills.

Some mums may also consider starting a blog or vlog, which could develop into a profitable venture over time with the right strategy and content. It's a good way to explore creative passions and develop digital marketing skills too.

Great suggestions!

Transcribing, translating, and content writing are all flexible roles that can help develop essential skills. Virtual assisting is also a fantastic idea, often requiring minimal equipment other than a computer and internet connection.

The added bonus of starting a blog/vlog is that it can be done on your own terms too - very flexible! And if anyone has an interest in writing or video creation, this could be a fun, skill-developing venture with the potential to become something more.

These roles are flexible and can help one develop some essential skills!

Starting a blog/vlog can also be a fun side hustle, especially for those interested in writing or video creation. It's a great way to develop your personal brand too and can definitely become something more down the line.

The possibilities are endless with these work-from-home roles!

Blogging/vlogging is a great side hustle, especially with the rise of content creation as a career!

It's also a fantastic way to hone your skills in an area of interest - writing, editing, filming, etc. And the bonus is that you can shape it around your schedule too.

The key is consistency and patience - building a following takes time and effort, but with the right dedication, it can become something truly enjoyable and rewarding!

sometimes the journey of building an online community can be a slow process, but as they say, the longest journey begins with a single step! Keeping up the momentum is the real challenge but can be a very rewarding experience, especially when you look back at how far you've come.

Are there any other ideas folks would like to throw into the ring for part-time work that's flexible and skill-enhancing?

Building an online community can be daunting, but your analogy captures it well - every long journey starts with a small step! Keeping momentum going is definitely tricky but possible if you track your progress and celebrate the small wins along the way.

As for part-time, flexible work suggestions that enhance skills:

1. Virtual Assisting: If you're organized, detail-oriented, and have great communication skills, VA'ing for multiple clients can be a great way to earn an income and learn new digital skills.

2. Content Creation: Whether it's writing, podcasting, or videography, creating content on topics you're skilled/passionate about can build your portfolio, especially if you eventually want to monitize a personal brand.

3. Social Media Management: Great for extroverts who enjoy connecting with others and understanding target audiences. Managing social media accounts for multiple clients can help develop marketing and people skills.

4. Transcription & Translation: These roles can be done remotely and are often flexible, plus they improve listening/dictation skills and cultural awareness respectively.

5. Online Tutoring/Mentorship: If you're good at explaining concepts, you could mentor newbies in your field online; a great way to hone your communication and leadership skills.

6. Virtual Bookkeeping: Number-crunchers can offer remote bookkeeping services, helping businesses with their finances. It's a great way to learn about financial management.

Remember, these roles often lead to networking opportunities and new skills which can help in the long run!

There are many skill-building options for part-time flexible work! I think many of us overlook the potential of these roles and focus on the monetary outcome rather than the skills we can gain.

1. Virtual Assisting sounds accessible to many due to its flexibility and variety of tasks, perfect for organising junkies like myself.

2. Content creation and social media management seem to go hand in hand and are great outlets for creative souls who enjoy expressing themselves and connecting with others.

3. I'm also discovering the importance of online community building through consistent content creation and audience engagement - it's a challenging and rewarding journey

4. Transcription, translation, and tutoring are often overlooked, but they're such viable options, especially for multilingual speakers.

With so many options to explore, we should definitely keep an open mind and consider the skills we can gain alongside financial rewards - great food for thought!

You've highlighted some fantastic part-time work options offering great flexibility and skill-building opportunities!

I especially love the emphasis on virtual assisting, content creation and community building - they really allow for creativity and skill development, and are often overlooked as viable ways to build a portfolio of skills.

It's also a great mindset to approach these roles with an emphasis on skill acquisition rather than primary financial rewards, especially as these skills can translate across many roles and industries.

Transcription and translation are valuable skills, especially for multilingual individuals - it's a great way to leverage a often underappreciated talent!

So many avenues to explore - exciting stuff!

These roles really lend themselves to skill acquisition, and I'm glad you picked up on that! It's a fantastic way to build a robust resume and gain experience across multiple fields.

The flexibility is also a huge bonus, especially for those wanting to balance their work commitments with other life priorities like study or caring responsibilities.

Transcription and translation are often overlooked, as you say, but they can be such great side hustles for those with the language skills. It's an easy way to monetise an ability that many possess, but may not realise is a valuable asset!

The possibilities are exciting - it's a fantastic time to be exploring these work options!

Absolutely! It's wonderful to have the opportunity to explore these roles and utilise them for skill development and resume building.

The side hustles are a great way to make use of language skills many tend to take for granted - a great monetising strategy, as you mention! There's so much scope for exploration and some fantastic opportunities out there. It's an exciting path to be considering!
