To make ECAs truly enriching and not just an item on a resume, what are some strategies we can discuss to ensure they contribute towards personal growth? This could be reflecting on our experiences or sharing ways to get the most out of an activity - making it meaningful and memorable.
Some ideas off the top of my head:
1. Dig deeper: Instead of participating in an ECA just because "it looks good", reflect on your intrinsic motivations and align your choices accordingly. Why are you drawn to this activity? What about it interests or excites you? Exploring these questions can help make our participation more thoughtful and fulfilling.
2. Set meaningful goals: Define tangible goals which go beyond the usual 'I want to win the competition'. Goals could be skill-based, such as mastering a new technique or improving leadership skills. This shifts focus from the outcome to the journey, making it more enriching.
3. Keep a journal: Reflect on your experiences regularly, documenting challenges faced and how you overcame them, new skills acquired, and meaningful moments. This can help appreciate the progress and personal growth derived from ECAs.
4. Branch out: Stepping out of our comfort zone by trying different activities broadens our experience. We may discover a newfound passion or develop a unique skill that we wouldn't have otherwise.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on these and other strategies! Let's make this discussion thread an enriching one, full of insights and takeaways.
