This thread is for sharing the often unique and powerful experiences that come with foster care and adoption so we can connect with others who might have gone through something similar.
I'll go first! One experience that sticks out to me was the first holiday season after adopting my two older children. We had always celebrated Christmas in a very traditional way, and fairly minimally, but my new kids were used to big, boisterous celebrations and lots of presents.
Their excitement was infectious, and though it was a challenge to suddenly have this huge event to navigate, looking back, I wouldn't change it for the world. We've carried those traditions into the present, and now, years later, Christmas has taken on an entirely new and wonderful meaning for our whole family. It's exciting and emotional to see how these new traditions have been adopted (pun intended!) and enjoyed by everyone.
What are some of your shared experiences? They can be big or small; I'd love to hear them all!
