Diapers: What's the most hygienic way to store and dispose of them? Are cloth or disposable diapers better for baby skin health?

Disposable diapers seem convenient, but might they trap moisture next to baby's skin, causing irritation or rashes? Cloth diapers could be more breathable, but are they more sensitive to bacterial growth or potential odor issues?

Are there any benefits to using one type over the other for sensitive babies or eczema-prone skin?

Can anyone share their experiences with either disposable or cloth diapers and provide advice on storage and disposal methods?

Using Cloth Diapers for Eczema-Prone Skin

I've used cloth diapers exclusively with my daughter, who has eczema-prone skin. We've had great success with them! Our pediatrician recommended using cloth diapers to minimize exposure to harsh chemicals found in disposable diapers.

To address storage and hygiene concerns: we keep a designated hamper with a lid in the nursery where soiled cloth diapers are stored until wash day. This helps prevent cross-contamination and odors from spreading throughout the house. During washing, we boil separate loads of cloth diapers for extra cleanliness.

We've also had to learn how to handle any skin issues that arise when using cloth diapers; mostly through trial and error and consultations with our pediatrician. One helpful tip was to use a fragrance-free laundry detergent and ensure all fabric used are as skin-friendly as possible.
